Sitting on our bean bags as children with a half-eaten plate of food on our laps was not a good sign. We should have heeded our mothers when they spoke of starving children wishing to have the food we wasted. As it turns out, food waste truly is a global and ecological issue.
Food waste piles up at an alarming rate in restaurants, kitchens and fast food restaurants the world over; and at a rate that may frighten even the most ardent of recyclers. Food waste is starchy, toxic and a mass-contributor to the dumping grounds that pepper our continents. In the US alone, food waste disposal costs the government an estimated one billion dollars in wasted money. Close to fourty percent of all landfills are filled with primarily food waste.
