African is still critically short of energy; a nocturnal satellite image showed only a few twinkling lights in the Northern and Southern tips of the continent. In an effort to get Africa lit up and to highlight the importance of green energy in Africa, the United Nations has designated 2012 the International Year of Sustainable Energy for All. Although Africa won’t get light overnight it will assist in jump-starting global efforts and will raise awareness of the issue.
