The lush Mediterranean isle of Gozo is more than a tranquil tourist destination; it is also a rich and vibrant ecosystem filled with precious flora and fauna that need to be preserved. Eco-Gozo is an initiative to make this beautiful Maltese isle a fully sustainable “eco-island” by the year 2020, protecting Gozo’s local culture and lifestyle, as well as the environment and resources of the island. Advocates in Malta have welcomed the Eco-Gozo project, which will have numerous benefits for Gozo’s inhabitants, investors and visitors alike. Eco-Gozo aims to reduce the island’s carbon footprint and water usage, and this week the project received a substantial grant in support of the Eco-Gozo irrigation plan.
